The results are in for the 7th annual survey of employer leave management practices and challenges. DMEC and Spring Consulting Group have partnered together again this year to understand employer challenges in managing all types of leaves, including the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), state family and medical leaves, military leave (USERRA), state military leave, jury duty, other state mandated leaves, municipal/county leaves, and other company specific leaves (e.g., bereavement, administrative, personal leaves, etc.)
Attendees will get an inside look into how companies of all sizes are managing all types of leaves. This year’s survey also took a closer look at management of parental leave, family care leave, and paid sick leave as well as the reasons companies are offering these leaves. Additionally, the survey addressed some new questions around leaves by location, key employee management, and types of services to assist employers in managing ADA administration in an effective and compliant manner.
During this session, you will also receive best practices tips identified in the survey and as identified by industry experts in absence management.

Karen English, Partner, Spring Consulting Group
Karen Trumbull English, ARM, CPCU, ACI, AU, a Partner with Spring Consulting Group, LLC, has 20 years experience in the property/casualty, health, and welfare arenas. She provides strategic direction, analysis, and implementation expertise and routinely works with integrated disability, absence and health management programs and also alternative risk financing vehicles such as captives. She has received industry awards for both brokerage and consulting.
Terri Rhodes, CPDM, CCMP, Chief Executive Officer, DMEC
Terri is the Chief Executive Officer of DMEC. Terri has extensive experience in all aspects of absence and disability management and is responsible for strategic oversight and management of DMEC. Prior to joining DMEC, Terri was an Absence and Disability Management Consultant for Mercer delivering strategic absence and disability management solutions to clients of all sizes, Director of Absence and Disability for Health Net, and Corporate IDM Program Manager for Abbott Laboratories.
Terri holds an MBA from Columbus University, a Certified Professional in Disability Management (CPDM), and a Certified Case Management Professional (CCMP). Terri has spoken at local and national industry conferences on absence and disability program implementation and administration. She is a contributing author and editor on several DMEC publications as well as a contributor to the new CPDM curriculum.
