ADA Utopia?

By Terri L. Rhodes, CCMP, CLMS, CPDM, MBA

CEO, DMEC

What would an Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) utopia with a robust stay-at-work (SAW) and return-to-work (RTW) program look like? First, our jobs would be much easier when we needed to accommodate disabled employees, and second, it would be part of normal business processes for employees to return to work following an illness or injury.

We wouldn’t have to worry about whether the disability is temporary or permanent. We wouldn’t have to defend why an employee should be given the opportunity to return to work.  We wouldn’t have supervisors tell us that they need for an employee to be 100% healed before they can return.
