When wellness programs are aligned with employee needs, they are more effective in reducing healthcare and absence costs and improving productivity. Here are some key considerations for your workplace wellness efforts.

Thoughtful Program Design

Successful wellness programs are tailored to meet specific needs, so understanding your population is a critical starting ground. If chronic conditions such as diabetes are driving your healthcare costs, consider partnering with your medical plans to offer programs for risk behaviors, such as smoking cessation or weight management. Many companies offer healthier menus in cafeterias, meetings, and vending machines, as well as onsite fitness facilities or subsidized gym memberships. Include mental health support; stress management or counselor referrals can proactively address employee needs before their job performance is affected and before they need extended care.
