Employers have a responsibility for the health and well-being of their employees, according to 76% of employees in MetLife’s 17th annual U.S. Employee Benefit Trends Study.1 In addition, 53% say employers have a responsibility for their financial well-being, with one in three workers admitting to being less productive due to financial stress.

Particularly when an employee is on a leave, financial stress can exacerbate the illness or injury being managed. Employers can alleviate financial stressors with holistic benefits packages that include financial wellness tools paired with critical illness or accident insurance offering lump-sum payments to offset costs associated with medical and rehabilitation treatment.

However, it’s also important that benefits are paired with a positive return-to-work (RTW) experience. Providing the right RTW environment can help ensure that employees will more quickly return to health and productivity. Below are five ways employers can impact the RTW environment.
