Technology Tools for Managing Absence

Having employees out on leave may feel like a crisis to supervisors. But these workers are focused on their own personal crises, not on the mechanics of taking a leave. It may be a crippling migraine headache, a dependent child facing an unplanned emergency surgery, or a difficult round of physical therapy while recovering from a car collision, but each leave comes with stressors of its own.
In situations like these, going through the prescribed motions to take time off work can push a person’s stress off the charts. It can be difficult to play phone tag with the supervisor, overwhelming to locate the proper request form in a stack of paperwork, and nerve-racking to track the number of days left under the company leave policy. The only thing that really matters to the worker in that moment is solving the immediate crisis.
