As integrated absence management (IAM) professionals working in a corporate environment, the response to the COVID-19 pandemic has dramatically impacted our profession and industry. When faced with developing new leave policies in a matter of weeks, you brought the knowledge. When faced with employees filing leaves and having to quarantine, you responded. When your workforce required the “new normal” of working from home, you reacted. During this year of extraordinary difficulties, you rose to the challenge.

The IAM industry is accustomed to adapting to new paid family and sick leave mandates, but when COVID dug its claws into the safety and health of employees and our economy, the response needed to be swift. There was no playbook or roadmap for managing our workforces through this pandemic, and we had little time to plan.
