The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) has been around for 25 years, but employers still struggle with several administrative aspects of the law. Employers regularly report confusion around managing the certification process, which is the cornerstone of successful FMLA administration. In this session, we took a deep dive into FMLA certifications and the challenged associated with the evaluation process.
This session explored considerations for the use of the Department of Labor’s model forms, parameters around the use of information from other benefit programs, and concerns for healthcare provider statements. Participants left with an understanding of what is necessary or can be requested for various qualifying events such as the employee’s own serious health condition (SHC), a family member’s SHC, bonding events, military exigency, and military caregiver leave.
