The Impact of Paid Leave for Caregivers in a Hybrid Workplace

Employees have coped with an evolving work-life balance since the beginning of the pandemic as employers do their best to keep up with quickly shifting leave laws and guidance, including those related to state paid family and medical leave (PFML) programs. What’s more, federal policy conversations about PFML are intensifying as Congress debates a potential federal program, which means additional changes are possible.

The next challenge on the horizon is navigating new and existing leave laws in hybrid workplaces, where employees work from offices on some days and remotely on others.

While the transition to a hybrid work environment may be challenging for many, it has been especially difficult for caregivers who balance work and caregiving responsibilities. A new employment initiative funded by the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers is investigating the question of which benefits are most helpful to caregivers, 60% of whom also work full time.1
