Between family medical leave, short-term disability (STD), and more states passing paid family and medical leave programs (PFML), employers face a complex web of absence benefits that they must manage when employees need to take leave. Understanding the value each program offers as well as how to best coordinate benefit programs is essential to providing employee support and remaining compliant with the ever-changing leave landscape.
In this session, we will dive into the different types of leave programs and explore how they interact through example scenarios. We will also cover best practices for coordinating benefits and how STD coverage can fill the gaps left by some state-mandated programs.
DMEC members receive free registration for webinars.
Learning Objectives
- Understand how the FMLA, STD, and PFML interact.
- Recognize when STD policies are still needed in addition to statutory benefits.
