Unum
Ellen McCann serves as a leading expert in applying benefits and benefits technology to power modern solutions to more effective employee leave programs, stronger regulatory compliance and enhanced digital HR transformation. In this role, she combines more than 30 years of employment law experience with practical knowledge of the complexities of leave and accommodation management to help develop and create solutions that enable employers to address the challenges of leave and accommodations. She is an acclaimed national speaker on leave management issues including FMLA and ADA, and is a certified trainer for SHRM and CE credit.
Unum
Ms. Freeman has spent more than 20 years at Unum focused on all things absence management. As Assistant Vice President, Legal Counsel, Daris’s primary responsibility is to support Unum’s Absence Management Center which administers FMLA, paid leave, ADA and over 200 complementary state laws. She partners with the operation and their clients to ensure absence management programs are compliant with federal and state laws. Most recently, her time is focused on the paid leave landscape. This includes advocacy efforts to support Unum’s current and developing paid leave services and initiatives. Ms. Freeman also partners with state agencies through rulemaking and operational workgroups to apply her expertise and experience to the development of their programs. In addition, she assists in the development of Unum’s products and services to help clients comply with paid leave requirements while integrating with existing leave and pay programs.
Daris received her Bachelor of Science degree in Organizational Management from Covenant College, her Juris Doctor from the Nashville School of Law, and is licensed to practice law in the State of Tennessee. She is a certified trainer for SHRM and CE credit and is a frequent speaker on FMLA, ADA and paid leave.
