For a segment of Americans who work full time and are family caregivers, the notion of an attainable work-life balance can seem out of reach. The challenges and emotional stress grew during the pandemic, which prompted many employees — mostly women — to take unpaid leave, cut back their hours, or leave the workforce entirely.1

Many employers responded with more flexible schedules, remote work options, and increased mental health support. It’s encouraging to see these practices continuing because they make a difference, and an emerging trend on the state level could help U.S. workers gain greater access to paid family leave.
