Mental health conditions are the most common employee disabilities. A startling 51% of those with disabilities identified a mental health condition, such as depression or anxiety, as their primary disability. In our previous session, we stressed the importance of training managers on FMLA and ADA compliance. Using a case-study format for this session, FMLASource attorney and FMLA/ADA expert Matt Morris and ComPsych Clinical Director Dr. Jennifer Birdsall will revisit your managers and the ongoing training they need to undergo in order to create a positive mental health culture and the workplace employees desire.
Our recent data found that mental health-related absences were up 300% between 2017 and 2023. In this session, we focus on proper coaching and support employers can provide to their managers to help ensure a positive approach to absence management and their commitment to mental health. If your managers are inexperienced in supportive conversations around leaves of absence, metal health, and psychological safety, they could be costing you valuable time, money, and talent. Just one-third (29 percent) of those surveyed for American Psychological Association’s 2023 Work in America Survey said that managers at their organization “encourage employees to take care of their mental health.” Join this session to understand how to empower your managers to recognize the signs when someone is struggling with their mental health, what to do about it to create a positive mental health culture, and why it must be a business priority.
