Reconsider Your Junk Drawer of Leave and Disability Policies

Consider what’s in that kitchen junk drawer — soy sauce packets, random pens, coupons, takeout menus, and unanswered mail? You get the point. And the more you add to it, the harder things are to organize and find.

Now translate that thinking to your leave policies and statutory information. Are they in a figurative junk drawer? Or several? When was the last time you reviewed them?

The leave and disability environment continues to change. The number of state statutes, new state disability programs, and accommodation changes should prompt employers to reorganize their company guidelines. To stay current, you must look in that drawer and devise a plan. How can you establish order, maintain organization, and update and replace outdated or “spoiled” policies?
