Artificial intelligence, when leveraged appropriately, can provide major benefits in capturing and comparing information, streamlining processes, and tracking compliance. However, as mentioned, it does come with inherent risk for both over generalizations and discrimination, as well as data privacy. It’s important to remember that the effectiveness of AI is really about how it’s programmed and maintained. If you’re attempting to adopt AI for claims, we’d recommend maintaining a human review of the AI’s decision making and creating an audit process that leverages data and reporting to ensure both consistency and equitability as well as to mitigate the risk of discrimination.
