How Employers Can Support Employee Mental Health

Life has changed significantly during the last two years. Many have lost or changed jobs, and we have all experienced lockdown, social distancing, and masking. As employees are returning to the workplace, attending in-person conferences, traveling, and hosting face-to-face meetings, employers must consider an aspect of this transition that can’t be seen: employees’ mental health.
We have encountered a lot of uncertainty, but one thing is clear: Americans are struggling with a multitude of issues that are directly related to the pandemic or have been exacerbated by it. Whether your employees have always been in the office or are transitioning back to it, managers need to consider the issues employees have been facing. Here are a few things to keep in mind:
It seems that many of us no longer work at home; instead, we live at work. It’s too easy to continue to grind away at work when you’re sick or everyone else is sleeping. To make everything more difficult, most employers are running short on staff so we’re all doing more than our fair share to keep operations running. One way employers are helping teams keep up is by adding mandatory mental health days to their paid time off policies. Sometimes having a single day during a workweek to catch up on non-work items that are causing concern can do wonders for emotional well-being.
