Preconference Workshop
Hot Topics of the ADA: Navigating Psychological Disabilities, Remote Work, and the Search for “Reasonable” Accommodations
SUNDAY, AUG. 2 | 1:00-5:00 PM
ADA challenges rarely come in neat, straightforward requests. In this preconference workshop, Hot Topics of the ADA: Navigating Psychological Disabilities, Remote Work, and the Search for “Reasonable” Accommodations, you’ll take a closer look at some of the most complex areas of compliance today, including psychological disabilities, remote work requests, and what “reasonable” really means in practice. You’ll learn how to look beyond the initial request and identify the underlying work restrictions that should guide your response.
Through real scenarios and practical approaches, you’ll work through how to handle the interactive process, explore different accommodation options, and manage cases where the answer is not immediately clear. You’ll leave with a more consistent, well-documented approach to making fair, legally defensible decisions.
This session is led by Alison Spalinger, Managing Consultant at Shaw HR Consulting. She supports clients and consulting teams on complex disability and accommodation cases and works directly on ADA interactive process files, bringing a practical, structured approach to navigating challenging situations.
Come prepared to work through real cases and walk away with a clearer, more consistent way to approach your most challenging decisions.
