Virtual Enrollment: Key Lessons from 2020

The year 2020 was like no other for benefits enrollment. With little advance planning, companies embarked on a fully virtual approach. By working with partners, many achieved high participation rates through a combination of online, telephonic, and limited in-person approaches.1 We learned lessons about how planning, communication, and partnership improve virtual enrollment.

Leveraging engagements with new hires or tenured staff throughout the year enables employers to improve communication, execution, and partnerships. Articulating total compensation in performance evaluations and throughout the year reinforces the value of benefits, how they are accessed, and how they support employees and their loved ones. These discussions also prepare employees for annual enrollment.2
