Tailoring Technology for Small Employers

By David Glickman, Executive Chairman and Co-Founder, Presagia

Several software solutions have been introduced to help employers manage the complexities of leave and accommodation requests. Initially they catered to larger employers that were more likely to have technical and financial resources to implement technology with licensing fees starting at approximately $10,000. However, vendors soon recognized a need to create solutions for small- and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) with fewer than 1,000 employees that were affordable and simple to operationalize.1

Companies of all sizes face challenges when adopting new technology solutions, such as the need to create internal processes, knowing which leave laws apply, calculating entitlement balances, and adhering to legal deadlines. SMBs might have additional budget constraints given that 68% cite cost as a challenge when considering technology solutions.2 While some outsource leave management to a third-party administrator or insurance carrier, SMBs can handle it internally with appropriate tools3 and as little as $1,000 annually.
