Whether leave management is insourced or outsourced, good data is needed to support eligibility and pay calculations, employee communications, and reporting. It is a critical component and essentially the foundation of any successful leave management solution. To ensure you have what you need, consider these steps:

  1. Identify what’s needed. Evaluate what’s required by the organization’s systems, which might be internal technology systems or outsourced vendor systems. Most systems have required data elements and won’t work without them, which means it can be impossible to get calculations right. For example, an employee’s leave eligibility may not be calculated correctly if the data is not accurate or of high quality, or if the data is missing entirely — such as the hire date and number of hours worked.
