Four New Members Join the DMEC Board of Directors

DMEC is pleased to announce that four new board members have joined its Board of Directors. “DMEC has carved out a leadership role in the field of absence and disability management” said Kevin Curry, Chair of DMEC’s Board of Directors. “I know our members share my excitement at the addition to the board of four industry experts uniquely qualified to further advance DMEC’s mission.”

DeShawna Manley is the National Benefits Director at PwC overseeing absence and disability programs for the organization’s 50,000+ covered lives. With 10 years of industry experience, Manley has worked in many aspects of the absence management landscape including claims management and consulting, has led first-time outsourcing implementation efforts, and has conducted internal operational assessments for organizations of various types and sizes. Manley holds an MBA from Walden University with a concentration in HR Management.

 

Regina Stringer is a Total Rewards Director at Walmart and is responsible for program design and strategy and oversees the Leave of Absence and Disability program for Walmart U.S. Stringer has led the implementation of various plan design changes supporting the priority of family, such as the expansion of the maternity and parental benefits to all full-time hourly associates. She is focused on ensuring the Leave and Disability programs are designed and implemented to balance both the needs of associates and to support the business and Walmart’s customers. Stringer holds a Bachelor of Arts from John Brown University as well as several certifications including the Professional in Human Resources (PHR), the SHRM Certified Professional (SHRM-CP), and the Project Management Professional (PMP).

Karen English is a Senior Consultant and Senior Vice President with Spring Consulting Group, an Alera Group Company. English has over twenty years of disability, FMLA, PFML, other leave, and workers’ compensation consulting. Her areas of focus include integrated absence management, insurance and financial services strategy, research and benchmarking, technology improvement, and implementation. Prior to joining Spring, English was a Senior Consultant with Watson Wyatt, Practice Leader for Parson Group, and a casualty broker for Marsh and Aon. English has her BBA in Risk Management & Human Resources from University of Wisconsin-Madison, and her MBA in Finance from University of Minnesota – Carlson School of Management and has also earned the designations of CPCU, ARM, ACI, and AU.

James (Phil) Bruen is a Principal at Main Street Consulting, and over a 40+ year career, has extensive sales, market development, and product leadership experience in the absence and workplace benefits industry. Most recently, Bruen was Senior Vice President of Life, Disability and Absence Product Management at MetLife, responsible for the product strategy, development, and product compliance for a $12 billion portfolio comprised of group term, variable universal, worksite whole life, short- and long-term disability, statutory paid family and medical leave, work site IDI, and absence management products. Prior to MetLife, Bruen was Vice President and National Accounts Market Sales Practice Leader for Unum and holds a BA in Biology from Colby College.
