Webinar Recording: Layers of Leave – A Practical Guide for Program Navigation

Jai HookerResources, Tools & Tactics Archives

Employee leave is a complicated subject, and it continues to become more complex as new rules and regulations are created regarding federal, state, local, and company leaves. This new landscape creates “layers of leave” — overlapping absence programs whose interactions must be considered.

In this webinar, we explored different leave scenarios and showed how the complexity has grown in terms of coordination, overlapping benefits, offsets, and documentation. We explored how a leave scenario can be affected by timing, the existence of a company leave in addition to state and federal programs, and different leave reasons — such as pregnancy, caring for a family member, or an employee’s own serious health condition. We reviewed leave scenarios from the employee’s perspective as well as the employer’s (including HR and claims professional roles).
