Avoiding Common Traps with Mental Health Accommodations

Claims of discrimination related to mental health conditions have risen sharply over the years. From 2021 to 2022, claims of mental health discrimination to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) have risen nearly 22%.1

When an employee seeks an accommodation for a mental health condition, it can be difficult to navigate for many reasons. Employees with mental health conditions may request continuous or intermittent leave, adjusted schedules, specific shift assignments, and working from home.2 While requests vary, employers should seek detailed documentation from healthcare professionals and use the interactive process to explore options.
